All of the Labrador puppies now have their eyes open so will be able to see shapes, shadows and movement to some degree, it will be about eight weeks before these Lab pups are for sale and available to go to their new forever homes.
The larger Pups are able to walk a little bit rather than just crawling like a newborn dog and can climb out of the two plastic dog beds they’ve been in so far
I have removed the plastic beds and just have a cushion type dog bed with an easy-clean towel over it in their nursery run otherwise they could climb out of the bed, not be able to get back into it and be in a state of panic not knowing where they are. They have already shown a good sense of direction (even before they opened their eyes) and go to climb into their bedding area after feeding on the bitch’s puppy milk – sometimes a few will just flump out and fall asleep on Lea’s head or draped over her back. As soon as Leapatra shows up or there’s a scent of dog-food in the air they all start scrambling back into the larger dog-bed to find a free teat.
I would expect that during the next couple of days with a larger world to explore they will build leg muscles and start walking & scampering about like only a puppy can do. That’s when the fun begins – out to buy a bag-full of dog-toys, puppy size feed bowls and arranging Kennel Club registration, their first inoculations and worming procedures.
