Dog Poisoned by a Scent Diffuser
“Saturday night I got home late and my dog didn’t recognize me. Being a nanny I thought I woke him up and he was having a night terror. Sunday, he was still acting weird. I realized that I had been running my new diffuser and decided to turn it off. Sunday afternoon, he was feeling better.
Today at work, my dog sitter said that he wouldn’t come out from under the bed. It was very odd as he is a happy dog.
I came from work early and again, he was very confused about who I was.
So I took him to emergency vet.
It turns out that the tea tree oil I was using in the diffuser is toxic for dogs. Thankfully the test showed that his liver was ok but we weren’t out of the woods yet. He was given fluids under his skin to get the toxins out.
The vet and the poison control are saying that they see these cases often now that the popularity of essential oil is growing.

Ten days from birth and only now do I have time to upload some videos, busy days!

The ultra-sound scan below is of the pups at five weeks, you can see three dark areas which are the fluid sacks and the lighter patch in the middle of each one is a pup. The skill of the operator means she is able to move the scanner around to find the pups then to tell by the way they are lying how many are visible. With the probability that there are more further up behind these.

These Working Black Labrador Puppies are from excellent parents.

Our Labrador puppies in Grimsby, Lincolnshire have every chance of becoming either top class working and competing gundogs, or probably the best pet dog you could ever hope for. My phone was in the office a few days back and whistled an incoming text message, I sent Joni to ‘go fetch’ and she ran upstairs & fetched my phone down for me. Try that with most other breeds and you’ll get either a blank stare or at best maybe an old sock that smells a bit interesting!

Danny is a
fantastic little dog and responding so well to training. Dave takes him to
puppy training now each week and he is usually top of the class and they use
him to show the others how it should be done!! He is very lively when he
needs to be but very steady as well. He has got retrieve down to a fine art
and Dave can throw three things down the garden and he will just go where
directed and leave the others until sent for them.

Annie doesn’t beg for food or steal from people, she is perfectly happy to curl up in her bed while we are eating…. Well usually, Steve was in the middle of explaining this to his nan and she tried to steal his mince pie off his lap as he was mid sentence, the timing was perfect! she hasn’t done it since though. We went for a walk on Boxing day at Hubbards Hill and Annie learnt to swim / retrieve. We have our last week of puppy class this Sunday & she will now be a KC recognized good behaviour dog 🙂

She met our niece and was very sweet with her, she knows the difference between her toys and Eve’s toys and doesn’t snatch. The only problem we had was Eve and Annie like to talk to each other at 1am, 2am, 3am and 4am!

Ash took second place in his first Field Trial – with no first place awarded as all other dogs were eliminated – AND he was “Gun’s Choice”

Ash (Pups’ Father) handled by Drew Slingsby won the Novice Cold Game test (Lincs Gundogs) held on Sunday 9th August at Orford, nr Binbrook, Lincolnshire.

 ALIEN BITES MAN’S FINGER OFF !

NOT REALLY – It had just attacked a slug so I had to clean it up a bit. Slugs are extremely sticky.

Jess has settled very well, I am amazed that she did not pine for her mother and siblings, but she is getting lots of attention to distract her!
She has been vaccinated, wormed, etc, back to the vet in a few weeks for the booster. You did a superb job at house training, obviously a
few accidents but mostly on the newspaper!

Training is surprisingly easy. I just give them a command and show them what I want them to do and they seem to learn it straight away 🙂

Eight weeks old and they’ll sit outside and wait at teatime when there’s a bowl of food on the floor.

If I had a pound for every time I’ve opened the microwave to find a cooled-down mug of milk I could take myself out for a nice meal & a pint instead of making a coffee. These little pups do take up some time – but they are fun 🙂
12:10 am Early hours of tuesday morning. Last p/p & playtime before bed – Sat outside & each pup gets a couple of minutes on my knee while the others play then I take them down the garden, then I tell them it’s Bedtime & they aim for the door. All snuggled down & as I get their bowls ready for breakfast I hear one murmuring, it’s Girl number one sat there – she forgot to go!  Lifted outside and she has a piddle then goes back to the door. A very well mannered little girl she is, and she has just been chosen by a local farmer and his wife.

Monday 7th September:

This is the third day they’ve had to put up with me shaking a metal sheet about & throwing it on the floor – pity my poor neighbour on night shift…

Bank Holiday Monday – Steady rain, fortunately I have a gazebo up outside to give them some shelter. After lunch they were snoozing when I heard a squeak, little boy number three was sat waiting for something so I put him outside. He helped me to pick up a few leaves & twigs then did what little boys do and then sat waiting to go back to bed again 🙂 He will soon be going to his new home near Lincoln.

Saturday 29th August

Nine Baby doggies patiently sitting waiting to be lifted out of their bed – they’ve learnt that jumping up & squealing doesn’t get them out.

Here are the girls enjoying elevenses. The squeaking is coming from the four boys in their bed who’ve just had some milk –
but always want more! This was their last group-suckle. I have reduced the milk feeding as they have moved onto puppy food and so Joni has made less milk. Just enough for a couple of the smaller pups to take a little.

Getting a bit ambitious there

Dam’s and Sire’s kennel club pedigrees were cross-checked to ensure no line-breeding and the only common ancestor is Pocklea Remus many generations back. Anyone familiar with the working Labrador gun-dog world will know that Pocklea Remus is legendary, his inclusion in the puppies pedigree bloodline is a big bonus. Also included going back to GGGG Grandparents with 9 International Champions are (Sire) 27 field trial champions, 2 field trial winners. (Dam) 28 field trial champions. Names you will know include Pocklea Adder, Pocklea Nettle, Haretor Mark of Drakeshead, Drakeshead Gypsy, Sandringham Magpie, Sandringham Tramp, Drakeshead Connie.

The national hips score average for Labradors is total=16. The Sire of this litter has hip score 3/3 (total =6) eyes 0/0. DNA tested clear. The Dam of this litter of puppies has hip score 6/4 (total =10)  Elbows 0/0. Eyes clinically unaffected by MRD & TRD (Minster Vets, Newark.)

The Sire, Hanrebor Blackcap known as Ash (bred and handled by Andrew Slingsby of Hanrebor Gundogs, Lincolnshire) at three years old is showing really well in working gundog tests. One of his half-brothers from his Dam Levenghyl Hooker (Hips 2/3) has excelled in competition:

The proud new mum is Joni Genie,

She’s now nearly ten years old, some chap a few weeks back guessed she was about…. two-and-a-half.  She is very well known in the north east of Lincolnshire having worked on various driven & rough shoots for beating, peg work and picking up. She has made a name for herself with many fine retrieves and will go ‘on point’ when she’s keen. She has also worked in Scotland for geese & duck along with pigeon and wildfowling work in Lincolnshire. A canada goose is no problem!
